When To Shop For Your First Bra

It’s hard to know when to ask your parents to take you bra shopping or when to know when the time is right to take your daughter shopping for her first bra. There is no age appropriate time it’s really about the development of each individual girl. It could be anywhere from 8 years old right up until 15 years of age.

So don’t worry about the age, look for the signs.

As soon as there is growth it’s a good idea to start wearing a soft cup bra (non underwire) or a training bra just to get use to wearing one. Don’t be surprised if you grow out of it quite quickly because it’s common to experience rapid growth. However do not be alarmed if it takes a while because there is no set rule here.

It is recommended that as soon as you can fill a B Cup bra it’s time to wear an underwire bra. Underwire bras give you much better support then non underwire bras.

# Teenagers are very active through out the day so ensure that the bra is providing optimum support and comfort.

It can be a little daunting for a girl to get professionally fitted for a bra however it is always a good idea if you can. Just remember they are experienced and they do this all day long so try not to feel nervous. How your bra should fit:

  • Your bra should fit snugly on the loosest hook
  • Your underwire should sit flush against your chest
  • Your whole breast in the cup (no spillage or gapping)
  • The shape of the bra should suit your body shape, it shouldn’t dig in anywhere
  • The bra straps you should be able to fit two fingers under there.

It’s a good idea to have a light color so you can wear it under your school shirts without it being seen through clothes.
