Things To Consider Before You Start Your Marketing Plan

As things are starting to ramp up for Spring, Summer and Christmas the wheels are in motion and you have your marketing plan in place. It’s time to start thinking about your marketing plan for 2012, but before we do that there are a couple are questions you need to ask yourself before you put together your kick arse marketing plan.

Your Brand

  • Do you have any new concepts in place? What have you introduced into your business in the last 6 to 12 months? These changes can be big and small or it maybe just a slightly different thought process you have. Make a list of all the new things you have introduced into your business.
  • Assess your advertising and marketing results from this year. What has worked and what hasn’t? What were the highlights of your current season?
  • What is your brand message and did you deliver and align with it this year? Ensure that you and your staff are aligned with your brand message at every point of your business.
  • Delivering your message- Write down all of the possible marketing opportunities. For example television, print and press, events and promotions, social media, trade shows, window displays and point of sale.
  • Most importantly think about and write down where you would like to take your business in the next 12 months, what do you need to accomplish?

Now you are ready to put together your marketing plan for 2012.

Once you have your marketing plan together think of ways you can support it and back it up with some awesome value added strategies for your customers. The key to the success of a marketing campaign, is to ensure you educate and communicate it with your team to deliver on your message.  For example with the recent NAB marketing campaign they actually started making changes 2 years ago to ensure everything was in place so they could deliver on their message. You don’t want to invest time and money into marketing your business then have it fall down at the first hurdle.

Points to think about when you’re putting your marketing plan together-

  • Spread your major events evenly through out the year.
  • Know your quiet and busy periods then create a strategy to maximise business and results.
  • Plan how many man hours you will require
  • Know the previous years results
  • Work out how much growth you need then how much you need to make in order to get it.
  • Know and align yourself with things that are happening in your community and your favourite charity.
  • Create different levels of status, for example know how big or small you would like the promotion to be and back it up with innovative ways to support and promote it.

Good luck and be creative!

  • I’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. The problem is something too few folks are speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy I found this during my hunt for something relating to this.

  • That is a good tip particularly to those new to the blogosphere. Short but very precise information… Appreciate your sharing this one. A must read post!
