Bra Myths

We hear so many bra myths and I really wanted to set the story straight. Recently I have come across a few women who have been "Professionally Fitted" in specialty lingerie stores and their bra fit has been terrible. So I want to arm you with everything you need to know so when you're bra shopping you will know exactly how you bra should fit.

Bra Myth 1

It's a common belief especially in fuller cups that its OK if your breasts pop out of the bottom and your bra will rise.

Bra FACT

Your bra should not rise up when you lift your arms. Even if you are a larger cup size your breasts should not pop out of the bottom of your bra.

Bra Myth 2

You'll never find a bra that sits flush against your chest if you have larger breasts.

Bra FACT

Your underwires should always sit flush against your chest. If you are going to get the support you need then it is crucial that the underwires sit flush...if they don't it gives no separation so you look like you have one breast or a mono breast as I like to call it.

Bra FACT

Women always think they are bigger in the back then they really are. Just because you wear a dress size 16 doesn't mean that's your bra size. Your bra band size is essentially the size of your rib cage therefore smaller then your dress size. Your band should be sitting under your shoulder blades and even from front to back, if they aren't you need to go down in the back.

Bra Myth 4

You can wear an everyday bra while exercising: No you can not, bras are extremely scientific there is an art to them, Sports bras have a different structure to them to reduce bounce. If you don't wear a sports bras you can really damage your breast tissue.

Bra Myth 5

The correct bra size is all that matters: Wrong, what people donn't tell you is that the shape of your bra is just as important as the fit. Depending on whether you have small shoulders, wide shoulders, low set breats, high breasts, wide set breats, fuller up top or fuller at the bottom will determine which bra shape is best for you.

  • What is the myth for numbers 1 & 2? I don’t understand the way it’s worded –
For number 1, is the myth that the bra should not rise up, or is that the truth (I would think that would be the truth).
For number 2, is the myth that underwires should sit flush against your chest, or are they actually supposed to sit flush?

      Hello Helena,
Let me clarify for you, they should not rise up and they should sit flush. So yes they are in fact the true answers I will ensure that is clear.

      Thank you

  • In fact no matter if someone doesn’t understand afterward its up to other viewers that they will help, so here it occurs.

  • An interesting discussion is worth comment. I do think that you should publish more about this topic, it may
not be a taboo subject but typically people do not
talk about such topics. To the next! Cheers!!
